The UFO (University of Oregon Film Organization) has a whole ton of club events coming up that I think you guys would be interested in knowing about.

1) First up there’s gonna be a trip to Laika Animation Studios, best known for the film adaptation of “Coraline”. This goes down March 2nd and Mary Erickson’s J412/512 class will accompany them. It’s a full tour of the Laika animation studios in Hillsboro, OR. You’ll also most likely get to visit the set of their most recent film “Paranorman”.

2) Next up will be BAKE SALES! Once a month the UFO will have a table outside of the Duck Store. Students are encouraged to volunteer in selling baked goods at this table and meet the net profits earned from previous sales. (In the future, the UFO would like to incorporate displays/interactive exhibits to lure people to the table. For example setting up a green-screen with a monitor so passing pedestrians can see themselves in a virtual environment in addition to raising awareness of video production methodologies).

3) And last but not least, there will be a variety of production projects occurring soon. The UFO currently has two production teams working simultaneously on two shorts. Today YES TODAY, Friday the 10th, they are holding a campus wide casting call open to all students. Once casting has completed, each production team will immediately organize a production schedule and shoot according to a workflow that has been set as a standard aiming to simulate practices comparable to production-oriented film schools.

So that’s the initial breakdown of events and activities on the horizon for the UFO. If you have any more interest in joining the club, head over to their Facebook page!
