This is a once in a lifetime opportunity so don’t miss it!
As if you needed any more reason to see “Prometheus” on June 8th. It’s been revealed that the first trailer for “Django Unchained” will play before Ridley Scott’s latest Sci-Fi epic.
Variety’s Stuart Oldham is tweeting that “sources” have let him know that the first trailer for Django Unchained will run in front of “Prometheus”, the new Ridley Scott film that opens June 8. There’s not an especially clear connection between the two films, beyond “two things the Internet is really, really excited about,” but the Weinstein Company can’t exactly wait to promote “Django” only in front of their own films, and “Prometheus”— with its R rating and director pedigree— is likely to bring in at least a somewhat similar crowd.

First trailer for “The Gangster Squad” is out! Ruben Fleischer’s latest film looks seriously badass, and is quite a departure from the comedy fare that he tackled previously with “Zombieland” and “30 Minutes or Less”. It’s got an all-star cast as well, featuring Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Josh Brolin, Nick Nolte and Anthony Mackie. Look for it in theaters later in the year.
THURSDAY MAY 24th marks the next installation of UO Cinema Studies Working Filmmakers Series! Description: Social Network Strategy Intern - Help shape, guide and implement the site’s evolving outreach on platforms that they have already set up (WordPress, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube) and suggest other alternatives. They would ideally like this person to start with some knowledge of all or most of these platforms so the internship could be devoted to using them rather than starting from ground zero.
Interested students need to apply through Shauna, the Cinema Studies adviser. email her at shaunar@uoregon.edu with any questions you may have or more info about the application process. This internship is 6 months long (June 25 through December 15 2012). Starting this week and running through the rest of the month!
The Northwest Film Center presents: “Castles in the Sky: Miyazaki, Takahata, and the Masters of Studio Ghibli”. This is a super sweet retrospective of the animation company’s movies, all on 35mm. Classics such as “Spirited Away”, “Princess Mononoke”, “My Neighbor Totoro”, “Porco Rosso”, “Kiki’s Delivery Service” and “Pom Poko” will all be screened this month.
All of this goes down starting this Friday in Portland at the Whitsell Auditorium. Hit the link for more info and to get your tickets!
Here’s some casting news that I’m personally very pleased with simply because there are very few people cooler than Andre “Ice Cold” 3000 in the world today. The suave half of the now defunct ATL hip hop duo Outkast has been cast to play Jimi Hendrix in the upcoming biopic “All Is By My Side”. Shooting is set to begin in Ireland in the three weeks.
Written by John Ridley (Three Kings, U-Turn), the film allegedly chronicles the period during which Hendrix wrote and recorded his debut album Are You Experienced in England in 1966 and 1967. No word yet about co-stars or planned release dates, but the film’s slotted for a six-week production period.
Sounds great! I loooove Andre 3000 and he’s actually a pretty good actor (see “Three Brothers”), although his films are far and few between.
“16 MM FILM SERIES” PLC 180, Friday 12-1.
